Better Call Saul has returned to rave reviews with the pilot episode setting up everything else in store over the coming season. However, like any good opening of a show, it’s given us plenty of questions that we’d really love the answer to.
In just one short hour we were given more character development, shown exactly what everyone is up to next, with the series pretty much picking up exactly where we left off. Here are 10 questions we therefore still have for the rest of the season.
HOW WILL GUS OUTPLAY LALO?
It’s clear that Gus is continuing to build his empire. We know that he hasn’t quite finished his underground facility for making meth, but that won’t be delayed for much longer. The question is, therefore, how does he fool Lalo and carry on production.
At some point, he must be able to play him so well that he gets everything he needs. Gus is in a much stronger position by the time the series will end, but we’d love to know what kind of plot he concocts in order to remove Lalo from the situation.
WHERE DOES LALO GO?
Lalo is an important part of the Salamanca family. He’s part of this league of powerful crime bosses and since Hector is out of action, for now, he has taken on a lot of responsibility. However, at some point, he must disappear from this universe.
What exactly happens to Lalo? Is he set to be killed off at some point in this season? Maybe he simply goes back to his home country and continues to run operations there. Whatever the case we assume Gus must have something to do with it.
WHY DOES MIKE END UP WITH GUS?
Mike has pretty much parted ways with Gus at the start of this series. Even though Gus has suggested he can keep Mike on a retainer, he has walked off as if it’s the end of their business dealings. Something doesn’t add up here though.
At some point, Mike and Gus will cross paths again as Mike is working for Gus in the future once more. We’re wondering how he ends up back in his employment. Is it a bad financial situation or something more dangerous?
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO NACHO?
The question has plagued us for a while. What will actually happen to Nacho in the future? He’s written out of this world in some way or another, but he’s now playing an extremely dangerous game.
It’s getting closer to the end of the line for him, but it’s unclear what that end actually is. Lalo seems to be onto him and some people are aware of what he did to Hector. There may come a time very soon where he must pay for his actions.
HOW LONG DOES KIM SUPPORT JIMMY?
Kim is clearly very disapproving of Jimmy’s methods, the problem is that they are actually working! She seems to be having a massive struggle between doing the morally right thing and doing the thing that actually gets the best results.
Like it or not, Saul gets the results he wants and Kim might not be able to put up with it much longer. For her own stability, she will probably drop her support for Jimmy’s escapades pretty soon, possibly breaking the couple up.
WILL SAUL RISE QUICKLY?
Saul is on the verge of becoming the con man and dodgy lawyer that we all know and love. However, he’s got to take a little bit of time to get there once again, rise to the top of his industry and even secure the famous building he once owned.
This rise might happen very quickly over the course of the season. However, with one more season still to come, it could take a little longer than expected. Hopefully, this series will show his path to the top.
WHY DOES HANK ARRIVE?
Hank has been teased a few times for the upcoming season of the show, but why exactly does he turn up at all? We assume it’s under his role of the DEA, which was obviously his main role in the far future.
Perhaps the minor war between Gus and Lalo is what brings him in, or perhaps it’s actually a plot by Gus to remove Lalo from the occasion. We don’t know how experienced he will be moving into this role though and if he’ll meet any of the big characters.
IS HECTOR FINISHED?
Hector is in a critical condition still after being poisoned by Nacho. Although he is now in his famous chair and has even been given his bell, is he truly finished quite yet. He becomes a player again later on so when does he re-enter the criminal scene?
He must at some point get rid of Lalo and take over, but we don’t know how competent he can actually be at this stage so soon after the incident. Hopefully, we’ll find out how he takes back control.
HOW DOES SAUL FIX HIS PROBLEM?
Saul has a serious problem in the flashforward section of the show. Someone has actually recognized him despite being deep undercover. Although he tried to get relocated, he realized he could fix the problem by himself.
The question is, how exactly can he solve this issue? The likely answer is that he simply has them killed, using one of his many contacts to take out the imposers. However, knowing Saul, there’s probably another angle to this problem.
WHERE’S HHM?
One of the worst things Jimmy has ever done is to use his brothers’ death in order to get his license back. It’s something HHM probably won’t be very happy about, but they are yet to be seen thus far.
The firm has always had it out for Jimmy and now that he is taking over as Saul we assume that Hamlin will be upset by his actions. At some point, he’s bound to turn up once again and cause more problems.
