Netflix releases a trailer for Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé and confirms an April 17 release date. The documentary explores Beyoncé’s groundbreaking 2018 Coachella performance, in which she became the first woman of color to headline the popular music festival in Indio, California.
In the late ‘90s, Beyoncé rose to fame as part of the group Destiny’s Child. In 1998, the band released their self-titled debut featuring the hit single “No, No, No.” However they truly become a pop culture sensation upon releasing 1999’s The Writing’s on the Wall and 2001’s Survivor, the latter of which reached #1 on the Billboard charts. By 2003, Beyoncé formed a romantic relationship with hip-hop icon Jay-Z, and she released her debut solo album Dangerously in Love that same year. To date, Beyoncé has released six solo albums, along with a 2018 collaborative album with Jay-Z entitled Everything Is Love. The couple married in 2008. Beyoncé has sold over 100 million albums in her recording career.

Netflix released the official trailer for Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé, this coming just days after Beyoncé teased the project on social media. In the clip’s first half, the voice of the late Maya Angelou plays over a video montage of Beyoncé’s past accomplishments. The interview recording emphasizes kindness, and ends with Angelou offering the advice that new generations “tell the truth.” In the second half, the trailer ramps up with footage of Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance, complemented by graphics that emphasize the cultural relevance of the event. After two decades in the music business, Beyoncé is undoubtedly one of the most influential artists of her time. The same applies to her husband Jay-Z, who is a self-made mogul in his own right, and the first rapper to be honored into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The trailer for Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé marks yet another big moment in Beyoncé’s career, along with a big moment for Netflix. Given Beyoncé’s international influence, a world of fans will undoubtedly stream the documentary special, if only to re-experience the singer’s 2018 Coachella performance, or perhaps to see it for the first time. What the trailer doesn’t show, however, is Beyoncé discussing her preparation, so the April 17 release of Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé will be enlightening for long-time fans, along with those who are simply curious about how someone gets ready for such an event.
