Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) has spent a fair amount of time during The Big Bang Theory’s 12-year-run blabbing about his spot on the couch, and yet an official poster for the sitcom puts him in the wrong spot. CBS’ hit sitcom ended back in May with an emotional one-hour finale, but its loyal viewers continue to discuss the series thanks to various re-runs on TV and its availability through streaming platforms.
Debuting in 2007, The Big Bang Theory followed the day-to-day lives of seven nerdy friends: Sheldon, Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar), with the addition of Melissa Rauch’s Bernadette and Mayim Bialik’s Amy in season 4 all living in California. After more than a decade on TV, it remained a hit ratings-wise for the network until the end of its run. It’s no wonder that, even months after it went off the air, fans are still keeping it at the forefront of the pop culture via various discussions.
One of the newest observations fans have noticed about The Big Bang Theory is the fact that one of its more recent one-sheet positions Sheldon in the wrong spot. Spotted by Reddit user NUCLEARGAMER1103 is an official poster for the sitcom featuring all seven main characters. While Raj, Bernadette, Amy and Leonard stood up behind the couch, Penny, Sheldon and Howard sat down. Interestingly, however, it’s Howard sitting at the leftmost seat on the sofa, while the socially inept genius is sandwiched between him and Penny. Check out the poster below:
Established in the very first episode of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon’s preferred seat on their apartment’s couch is the leftmost spot when sitting, and he had several reasons why he chose it. As the genius explained to their then-new neighbor Penny: “In the winter that seat is close enough to the radiator to remain warm, and yet not so close as to cause perspiration. In the summer it’s directly in the path of a cross breeze created by open windows there, and there. It faces the television at an angle that is neither direct, thus discouraging conversation, nor so far wide to create a parallax distortion, I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point.” Over the years, the specific detail had become the center of several episodic stories, which include Penny accidentally ruining the cushion and finding a way to hide it from Sheldon.
Given this, it’s interesting that the poster features Sheldon on a spot other than his usual one. Some have pointed out that it’s not the same couch from Apartment 4A. However, it’s worth noting that another newer poster also has a different couch but positions him on his favorite seat. In any case, Sheldon doesn’t look pleased with his current position in the said one-sheet, especially since Howard has had a history of stealing his spots. They’ve had fights over his couch spot at home, as well as their designated parking places at work.
