Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey introduced the world to Bruce, one of Harley Quinn’s pet hyenas. Of course, there are plenty of other super villain and hero pets in the comics, some of which have never been seen on the big screen before.
With so many pets that could be featured in cinema, we’d love to see some of these make their way into the DCEU. Here are 10 of the toughest, most heroic and evil animals from DC comics that we think would fit right into this universe.
KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG
The Superdog is one of the most famous animals in all of DC. Whether it’s because of the comics, the animated series or the fact that Superman himself is so popular, Krypto is quite well known in the main stream media.
However, he’s never actually made an appearance in the DCEU, despite the fact he’d probably be a perfect fit for it. It’s likely Krypto wouldn’t have super powers in this universe but it still would be fun to see a nod towards him.
BUD AND LOU
The hyena in Birds of Prey was in fact not the original animal that we see in the comics. Harley Quinn actually has two completely different pet hyenas that she has named Bud and Lou. However, it’s Bruce that we are given instead.
Bud and Lou have a very different personality to what we see in the film. In the future, it would be fun to see Bud and Lou introduced and Harley continue to build her roster of deadly pets that she can use in battle.
ACE THE BAT-HOUND
Much like Krypto, Ace is also really well known and has even turned up in some TV shows. It would be great to see him in the DCEU, where he could continue on Batman’s legacy and link back to Bruce Wayne.
A well trained dog can be quite useful for any mission that the Bat Family is going on. However, since there’s another Batman movie in the works then there might be a way to bring Ace into that film instead — although that would mean he’s not part of the DCEU.
GLEEK
Gleek may be making his way to the CW’s Arrowverse, but there’s every possibility that he could make the jump to the DCEU too. The bizarre alien monkey is one of the most recurring pets in all of DC.
He is heavily linked to the beloved Wonder Twins, and is just as wacky as you may expect. While he may not totally fit in to the tone that the DCEU has set so far as it continues to broaden its universe and perhaps even go cosmic, there may be a place for Gleek.
COMET
If flying horses exist in Marvel Comics, then it makes sense that DC can have their own super-stallion named Comet. Linked heavily to the House of El once again, Comet’s background is certainly an interesting one.
Sometimes known as Biron, the horse is a long-time partner and pet of Supergirl. Kara has been seen riding Comet into battle on numerous occasions. Comet is not a Kryptonian horse however, but a former centaur that was cursed by Circe.
POOCH
There are very few regular animals on this list that don’t hang around normal humans that much, but Pooch is one of the few that spent most his life outside of the meta human world and fought on the front lines.
He’s an incredibly heroic dog that actually received a medal for his work in the war. He teamed up with a number of soldiers although he has been often overshadowed by one of his relatives known as Rex the Wonder Dog.
REX THE WONDER DOG
Rex the Wonder Dog feels in some ways very similar to Krypto, but there are also a number of differences between them. Rex had his own title for some time and is well known as one of the most powerful DC pets.
Rex has done everything from living the hero life to actually being in films and at one point took part in the circus. He can communicate with humans, has super senses, agility and strength and would be a cool addition to the DCEU.
JARRO
What happens when Starro is sent back to being much younger and smaller and carried around in a jar by Batman? He becomes Jarro the tiny alien pet starfish who has physic abilities and seems to think that Bruce Wayne is his father.
While his powers are slightly weakened, Jarro is still incredibly strong and can make quite a difference in the DC universe. Once again it’s an odd character to add to the DCEU, but it would be a great new origin story from Jarro to villainous Starro.
BEPPO
There have been a couple of primates on this list so far, but it seems the writers at DC love bringing chimps apes and monkeys to their comics.
Beppo isn’t the most well known of characters even among comic book fans. The monkey is from the planet Krypton so as you’d expect, he has many of the same powers that other Kryptonians have. He’s almost like a super monkey.
STREAKY THE SUPERCAT
If Superman gets a super dog shouldn’t Supergirl have her own super cat? Well that’s exactly what she gets with Streaky the Supercat that has all the powers you may expect from a cat worthy of starring in DC comics.
With a cute cape and a long history, it makes sense that if Supergirl ever gets added into the DCEU she should get her faithful pet along with her. It’s odd we’ve never actually seen Streaky in the Arrowverse as a supercat rather than just a regular feline.
