Warning: SPOILERS for Birds of Prey ahead

The Birds of Prey end-credits scene features one more voiceover joke - here’s what Harley Quinn said about Batman and what it means for the DCEU. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn first debuted in 2016’s Suicide Squad, where she was caught by Batman (Ben Affleck) and sent to the metahuman prison Belle Reve. At the end of that movie, Harley was broken out of Belle Reve by Joker (Jared Leto) and now Birds of Prey picks up with her story. Birds of Prey is told entirely from Harley Quinn’s point of view, with Robbie delivering a voiceover from the Cupid of Crime’s perspective, introducing the various characters and offering commentary on the events of the film.

In Birds of Prey, Harley Quinn and Joker have broken up and she’s without the protection of the Clown Prince of Crime, which puts a target on her back. Eventually, she teams up with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) in order to defeat Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and protect the young pickpocket Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). While Leto’s Joker doesn’t appear in Birds of Prey, the movie is a spinoff from Suicide Squad and the larger DCEU. It features plenty of references to not only Harley’s relationship with Joker, but her career as a villain and time with the squad. And one of those references comes at the very end of the movie.

In the Birds of Prey post-credits scene, which isn’t really a scene since it doesn’t include any footage, Harley Quinn’s voiceover returns to admonish everyone left in the theater for sticking around. She decides that those who waited patiently deserve something for it and says she’ll tell the audience a secret about Batman. Harley Quinn says, “Batman f—” and then the audio cuts out and the Warner Bros. logo is shown before she actually reveals her secret about Batman. The audience never gets to know what secret Harley Quinn would’ve revealed.

So what was Harley Quinn going to say about Batman? While we don’t know for sure, the fact that Harley Quinn was cut off when about to say a word that starts with an ‘F’ - and considering Birds of Prey is R-rated, in part for strong language - we can guess Harley was about to say, “Batman f-cks/f-ucked…” As for what the ending of that sentence could be, fans can turn to DC Universe’s Harley Quinn animated series for one possibility. In the series premiere, Harley Quinn makes multiple jokes that “Batman f-cks bats” and that’s where he gets his superhero name. Maybe Birds of Prey was going to have Robbie’s Harley Quinn make a similar joke, but at this point, that’s only speculation.

At least, there’s one thing we know Harley Quinn wasn’t going to say. Considering Birds of Prey makes it clear Harley Quinn doesn’t know Batman’s alter-ego is Bruce Wayne (since Harley wouldn’t name her hyena after the “hunky” Bruce Wayne if she knew he was Batman), then we can presume she wasn’t going to reveal Batman’s real identity. That would also be a letdown since the audience definitely knows Bruce Wayne is Batman by now.

Unfortunately, we won’t know what Harley Quinn said about Batman in the end-credits tease until someone involved with Birds of Prey reveals what the joke would’ve been - if a joke was ever written in the first place. It’s entirely possible Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson never wrote a Batman secret for Harley Quinn. Of course, that doesn’t mean neither she nor Robbie filled in the blank at some point when recording the voiceover. But until someone close to the Birds of Prey production reveals what Harley Quinn would’ve said about Batman, fans can only speculate.
