Blac Chyna walked the 2020 Oscar’s red carpet and the whole internet is confused as to why she’s even there. After all, the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony was riddled with elegant celebrities and people from the film industry who are at the top of their game. No one could imagine that the reality star knew anyone from the movies, much less that they would bring her as a plus one.
Just when you thought you’d seen it all and heard it all, Blac Chyna showed up at the 92nd annual Academy Awards ceremony. Sure, Chyna’s not the typical person one would imagine hobnobbing with Hollywood royalty, but this girl’s clearly got friends in pretty special places. Blac Chyna has been on a mission to rehabilitate her image from stripper and music video eye candy and reality TV star to entrepreneurial single mother. She’s been especially diligent ever since Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, Rob Kardashian raised issues about her ability to effectively parent their daughter Dream.
The internet continued to go wild with speculation over who her date was, or what top-secret project in the works allowed her to be there. The single mom of two finally made it clear that she was the guest of music producer Christopher Trujilo. According to his IMDb account, Trujilo has credits on Think Like a Man and For Colored Girls. Blac Chyna walked the red carpet, posing for photographers before the awards ceremony got underway. She rocked a seductive black velvet Dona Matoshi gown with a plunging back, dark blue fringe and bedazzled accents, as well as a thigh-high slit. She appeared on the red carpet early on in the evening, well before some of the other celebrities arrived. Prior to her big debut, Chyna tweeted a picture of herself in her car: “Headed to the Oscars with my Award-winning engineer @titojustmusic.” Chyna’s appearance on the Oscars red carpet elicited a puzzled response from many of her followers, including one who asked: “Wait…why were you there again?” The shock and awe that followed Chyna onto the Oscars red carpet was no match for her gratitude.
While Blac Chyna is no stranger to celebrity circles, this was, to date, the most international exposure that she’s had, despite her appearance on the red carpet at this year’s Grammy Awards. The Academy Awards were viewed by 23.6 million people. The various red carpet telecasts garnered some of that viewership. Although those ratings are down from the previous year’s telecast, Chyna’s global reach as an attendee is priceless. Maybe a walk on the Oscars red carpet is just what this model-business woman needs to show that she’s turned over a new leaf. In the meantime, her presence at this year’s Oscars is one of those zany and unpredictable moments that make this one of the most magical awards ceremonies out there.
