Be advised, major plot spoilers for Black Christmas are included below.
Blumhouse’s new slasher remake Black Christmas is now in theaters, and here’s a complete guide to the characters, and who plays which role. Appropriately released on Friday the 13th, this third attempt at Black Christmas sports a story almost entirely different from the 1974 original, which was made clear by the trailers and marketing before the film had even come out. Of course, different doesn’t also mean worse, and trying something new is often preferable to simply regurgitating the original’s plot.
Black Christmas sports a rather large onscreen cast, although many of them are just bit players. The plot focuses in on a core group of sorority sisters and fraternity brothers who end up on opposite sides in a literal battle of the sexes, in this case to the death. It’s hunting season this winter break, and the women remaining on campus are determined not to fall prey to those who seek to make them sacrifices in service of a very peculiar ritual.
Without any further ado, here’s a full rundown of the Black Christmas 2019 cast, both heroes and villains. It’s time for these sisters to take their power back.
Black Christmas Main Cast
Imogen Poots as Riley Stone: Riley is the main protagonist of Black Christmas, and the character most often focused on. The previous year, she was the victim of a rape by AKO fraternity president Brian Huntley, but the authorities didn’t believe her and her attacker went unpunished. She survives the film, and emerges triumphant in the process. Poots previously starred in the 2011 remake of Fright Night, and the acclaimed 2015 horror film Green Room, both alongside the late Anton Yelchin.
Aleyse Shannon as Kris: Kris is Riley’s best friend, and a crusader for women’s rights and overall equality on campus at Hawthorne College. She convinces Riley to fight the evil forces working against them, and also survives the film. Shannon previously played Jada Shields on The CW’s reboot of Charmed.
Lily Donoghue as Marty: Marty is a close friend and fellow sorority sister to Riley and Kris, and ends up sacrificing her life to help them escape from one of the AKO killers. Donoghue previously appeared on Jane the Virgin and The Goldbergs, and will star on the next season of Dirty John.
Brittany O’Grady as Jesse Bradford: Jesse rounds out the core quartet of MKE sorority sisters that stay at Hawthorne College over Christmas break. Jesse can seem a little lacking in common sense, but she’s kind and loyal to her friends. Sadly, she gets killed while looking for Christmas lights in the attic. O’Grady recently starred as Simone on FOX musical drama Star.
Black Christmas Supporting Cast
Cary Elwes as Professor Gelson: A literature professor at Hawthorne College and a former president of AKO, Gelson turns out to be the leader of the AKO black magic cult created using information found inside the bust of founder Nathaniel Hawthorne. Kris is petitioning to have him fired, but that won’t matter, as he’s burned alive alongside his AKO brothers when the frat house is set on fire. Elwes is a veteran actor needing little introduction for most, having starred in hits like Saw, The Princess Bride, and Liar Liar.
Caleb Eberhardt as Landon: Landon is a shy guy with a clear crush on Riley, but it takes him a long time to actually approach her. Landon has a kind heart, and helps Riley infiltrate the AKO frat house. He’s briefly turned evil by the evil black goo found inside the Hawthorne bust, but recovers and survives the film. A mostly new face, Eberhart previously played small roles in The Post and on The Defenders.
Madeleine Adams as Helena: A newbie to MKE, Helena is mentored by Riley. She seems to die early on, but in actuality has flipped sides and pledges obedience to the so-called “alpha males” at AKO. Her betrayal is rewarded with death by broken, twisted neck. Adams is another mostly new face, having only played small roles previously, outside of the New Zealand TV series Bright Summer Night.
Ryan McIntyre as Brian Huntley: Seemingly second only to Gelson in the AKO cult, Brian drugged and raped Riley and went unpunished. Thankfully, he burns along with Gelson at the end of the film. This is McIntyre’s first Hollywood acting credit.
Simon Mead as Nate: Marty’s boyfriend, he’s normally kind, but being in proximity to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s evil black goo makes him get rude and combative. He’s ultimately killed trying to defend the MKE sisters. Mead is another newcomer of New Zealand origin.
Lucy Currey as Lindsay: Black Christmas’ first victim, Lindsay is another MKE sister. She intends to head home for the holidays, but ends up stabbed with an icicle instead. Currey is another relative unknown from New Zealand, where it should be pointed out that Black Christmas was filmed.
