Black Panther 2’s latest fan-created poster teases Namor’s introduction to the MCU. Avengers: Endgame wrapped up the 22-film arc known as The Infinity Saga, while Spider-Man: Far From Home is technically an epilogue to the narrative. The franchise is now in a rebuilding phase and that means that a string of new characters will be coming into the franchise down the road. That’s either via their own films like Chloe Zhao’s Eternals and Daniel Destin Cretton’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or through an already established franchise like Black Panther.
There’s no official word yet regarding when and what fans can expect from the King of Wakanda as he returns for his second standalone flick. The public will, however, be thrilled to learn that the cast is coming back for the sequel, and so is director/writer Ryan Coogler. Black Panther 2 was notably absent from the list of films confirmed for Phase 4 as revealed in San Diego Comic-Con, although Kevin Feige briefly mentioned it. And while everyone’s waiting for any official information about the project, one fan-made poster poses an interesting idea - what if Namor the Submariner is introduced in the much-anticipated blockbuster?
Digital artist BossLogic created a one-sheet for Black Panther 2 with a mock-up subtitle - Two Kings. This refers to T’Challa as the King of Wakanda and Namor as the King of Atlantis. While it’s nothing but a suggestion, a majority of the fans in the comment section are nothing but thrilled with the idea. Check it out below:
Kevin Feige and his team have yet to reveal any story details for Black Panther 2, but an Easter egg in Endgame has given the public the idea that Namor may actually be coming to the MCU. During Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) regular round-up with her fellow heroes during the five-year time jump, Okoye (Danai Gurira) talked about an earthquake under water which they handled “by not handling it.” That said, this wasn’t the first time that the MCU has dropped hints about the arrival of Namor. There was already a reference to Atlantis as early as Iron Man 2, with Atlantis marked on a S.H.I.E.L.D. map.
All that being said, Namor’s complicated character rights situation may hinder this possibility. Unlike T’Challa and Wakanda, Marvel Studios has to go through some hoops to be able to use the underwater character in the MCU. Not that this sticky situation discouraged them before from trying - case in point: Spider-Man. But while it’s fun to ponder on this possibility, there’s also a ton of other narratives that Black Panther 2 can tread, with Namor’s debut being saved up for the future.
