Ever fan of the Avengers knows that Black Widow is their deadliest member. But what happens when you put a highly-trained killer into a suit of weaponized Iron Man armor, and send her up against the worst alien scum of the universe? Easy. You get the War Widow, a one-woman army tearing her way across space on a mission like no other before.

Since the dawn of time, the planetary defense mechanism known as the Starbrand has granted a number of wielders virtually infinite power. The most recent Starbrand was driven mad and died in a confrontation with Ghost Rider, so when signs indicated his successor was wreaking havoc out in space, the Avengers gave chase. But the team is now trapped in a Shi’ar prison galaxy, half of them fighting for survival on a derelict ship with a Brood-infected Thor and the other half in Robbie’s Hell Charger, which was attacked by the Silver Surfer. As Shi’ar inmates closed in on the crashed Hell Charger, Black Widow revealed her new armor, preparing to do battle as the fearsome War Widow.

That’s exactly where the preview pages for Avengers #29 begins, showing how much damage Natasha can inflict, when she’s no longer concerned about taking alien criminal lives. The story unfolds in the official preview pages for Avengers #29 which can be found below.

The preview concludes with the arrival of the Silver Surfer… Even though he’s not actually the ‘Silver Surfer’ at all. After losing his shine as part of the Silver Surfer Black miniseries, the Surfer responded to the same Starbrand destruction as the Avengers. He has assembled his own team comprised entirely of the former Heralds of Galactus, who are just as determined to eliminate this new version of Starbrand. But will the Surfer’s decision to confront the War Widow make matters simpler, or much, much worse? Find out when the full issue arrives.
