Bloomberg has published a report that adds new details about the rumored 6.5-inch OLED iPhone and 6.1-inch LCD iPhone expected to join the updated 5.8-inch OLED iPhone later this year. New details include potential screen resolution on what would be the largest iPhone display ever, plus the possibility of gold returning later this year.
According to the new report, the iPhone with a “screen close to 6.5 inches” will feature a display that’s “about as sharp as the one on the 5.8-inch iPhone X.”
Bloomberg adds that Apple is considering expanding the color lineup to feature a gold option for the flagship iPhones once again.
That would exclude the rumored 6.1-inch LCD iPhone. Apple currently offers the iPhone X in space gray or silver; the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come in space gray, silver, or gold like previous models.
Bloomberg also says Apple is considering a dual-SIM card feature in the larger iPhone to appeal to travelers who frequently swap their SIM cards between carriers, but the report says Apple may wait for an E-SIM solution (possibly like the iPad approach) instead.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted back in November based on supply chain research that Apple was planning to expand the iPhone lineup in fall 2018 with a new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and 6.5-inch OLED iPhone.
Kuo later added that the cheaper 6.1-inch model will replace the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD flagship options, but may not include 3D Touch support first introduced with the iPhone 6s nor a dual rear camera introduced with the iPhone 7 Plus.
