Here’s what happened in the season 9 finale of Blue Bloods. The long-running CBS cop drama follows the professional and personal lives of the Reagan family who all work in New York City law enforcement. Heading the Reagan clan is patriarch and police commissioner Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck) who is also joined by his district attorney daughter Erin (Bridget Moynahan), NYPD detective son Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and his youngest child Jamie (Will Estes), an NYPD sergeant.
Blue Bloods returned to CBS in 2019 to air its landmark tenth season. Over the course of the show’s many seasons, viewers have seen the Reagan family go through many personal losses like the murder of Frank’s middle son Joe prior to the series premiere or the offscreen death of Danny’s wife Linda between seasons. It’s safe to say being a part of the Reagan family comes with its share of heartbreak, but the Blue Bloods season 9 finale was a far more upbeat and positive milestone that welcomed a new member of the Reagan clan rather than saying goodbye to one.
As the Blue Bloods season 9 finale’s title – “Something Blue” – suggests, the focus of the episode was a wedding. More specifically, the focus was the long-awaited wedding of Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko or ‘Jamko,’ as Blue Bloods fans like to call them. Getting hitched wasn’t without its hitches though as Eddie came under the scrutiny of her soon-to-be sister-in-law Erin after a witness in a murder case claimed a statement Eddie took from him wasn’t true. Jamie decides to intervene which causes friction between him and Eddie in the days leading up to the wedding.
Meanwhile, Danny and his partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez, Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena) are investigating what seems to be a cut and dried murder case but is a little more complicated than it first seems. Elsewhere, Frank’s inner circle – Garrett Moore (Gregory Jbara), Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk) and Sidney Gormley (Robert Clohessy) – are bickering between themselves but work out their differences in the end.
Eddie manages to prove the witness that made Erin doubt her was actually lying about his statement and she makes up with both Erin and Jamie. Rather than the usual Reagan family dinner that features in every episode, in “Something Blue” it’s Jamie and Eddie’s rehearsal dinner that takes center stage and brings together the Reagan and Janko families. The Blue Bloods season finale ends with Frank walking Eddie down the aisle to a very happy Jamie.
