Dave Bautista says he wants to play Hinx again in the 25th film in the James Bond franchise, but he realizes the film hinges on the return of Daniel Craig as 007. While Bautista appeared in a couple films prior to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s no question that his turn as Drax the Destroyer was a breakout role for the former WWE star. It opened up huge opportunities for the actor, including a role as the henchman Hinx in 2015 James Bond film Spectre.

The 007 franchise itself is in a state of flux, as five studios are currently bidding for the distribution rights, but the hope is Bond 25 can move forward in ernest soon. When that time comes, Bautista is hoping he can come back into the fold and portray his character again.

Bautista, whose currently reprising Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, tells Metro in the U.K. that he’s up to playing Hinx again should the opportunity present itself in Bond 25, and most importantly, if Craig returns to the franchise for the fifth time. He says:

Bautista says he’s no more been informed about Craig’s possible return than anybody else, noting, “I’m reading the rumors just like everyone else.”

“Believe me we’re talking about it a lot. We’re waiting at home with our fingers crossed … We’re waiting for the news to see if Daniel will sign up for Bond 25, because then there’s a chance that Hinx will come back.”

The mere fact that Bautista is talking about Hinx again should be good news for fans of the Bond villain, meaning the character somehow survived after being thrown from a train by 007. The only way we’ll know for sure, though, is if and when Craig finally decides to sign on to the next film.

Last month, it was reported that the actor was still deciding to return, and apparently whether he will or not, at least Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are working on a new script. Craig is said to be close to a decision, and by the looks of things, money is not an issue with the hold up since he’s reportedly been offered $150 million to play 007 in two more films.

While Bond 25 languishes in pre-production hang-ups, Bautista will, of course, be keeping himself busy in the interim with the Avengers: Infinity War films and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. If Hinx does return opposite Craig’s Bond in Bond 25, hopefully, Purvis and Wade will find a way to give Bautista more than the one-word expletive that signaled his exit from Spectre. His role in Guardians of the Galaxy alone showed just how funny and conversational Bautista could be – and there looks to be a lot more of it in Vol. 2 – so Bond 25 needs to take advantage of the actor’s natural gifts.
